Power BI Desktop February Update: Providing a deeper analysis and performance improvements

Power BI Desktop updates

It’s an exciting time for Power BI as this month’s updates focus on modifications which have been in high demand Cloud and subscription- based products allow suppliers to respond to requests and issues – a concept that Microsoft is championing with the latest release. These updates include multi-selecting data points across multiple charts and syncing slicer values across multiple pages of a report.

Key updates in this release

Reporting – With multi-select data points across multiple charts, you can now ctrl+click on data points in multiple charts and have the cross filters applied to your entire report. In addition to this, Sync slicers have been introduced to allow you to select slicers that stay in sync across multiple pages. These are some of the highest requested features on the Power BI Ideas site.

  • Analytics – A number of new features around dates have been included in this release, including the new custom date table, which allows marking of any table as a date table with associated hierarchies and time intelligence.
  • Custom Visuals – As well as the Marketplace, it is now possible to select visuals from “My Organization”. This allows Power BI admins to deploy specific visuals that are appropriate to the organization’s needs. This feature is currently in preview. There are a number of other visualisations now available as provided by Power BI partners, and extra filtering options.
  • Data Connectivity – There are a wide range of improvements to data connectivity from usability to performance enhancements.
