Office 365 researcher

New to Office 365 Researcher and Editor in Word

Microsoft have announced that they are releasing a new set of services in Office 365 for the wide range of productivity apps. Designed to save time and produce high quality results, the features improve your experience with the Microsoft Office suite.

Cite Content and access sources with Researcher for MS Word

In the latest Office 365 innovation, Microsoft have launched the Researcher, the tool that helps you to find and incorporate reliable sources and content for your documents.

From within your Word document you can explore material on-line related to the topic from within the Word app, then add it with the properly formatted citation in just one click. Researcher uses the Bing Knowledge graph to pull in appropriate content and provide structured, safe and credible information.

A growing knowledge base

Microsoft are continuing to expand the body of materials to reference from, including national science and health centres, well-known encyclopaedias, history databases and more.

Researcher is planned for mobile devices so that people can create document outlines quickly from anywhere on any device.

Introducing Editor, the Digital Writing Assistant

As part of the updates with Microsoft Word, Microsoft have announced a new feature called Editor. Whilst Researcher helps with starting documents, editor helps to add the finishing touches to a document. Leveraging machine learning and natural language processing—mixed with input from our own team of linguists—Editor makes suggestions to help you improve your writing. Initially, it will help you simplify and streamline written communications by flagging unclear phrases or complex words, such as recommending “most” in place of “the majority of.”

Growth with the Cloud

As a cloud based platform, as with Researcher, Editor is poised to improve with time. This autumn, Microsoft will expand upon Word’s current spelling and grammar tools to inform you why words may not be accurate – teaching at the same time that it is correcting. In the same release Editor will overhaul Word’s visual proofing cues so that you can distinguish at a glance between edits for spelling (red squiggle), grammar (blue double underline) or writing style (gold dotted line).

Available now for Office 365 on Word 2016

Researcher is available now on Windows desktop versions of Word 2016 on Office 365. If you would like to find out more about Office 365 and all of the latest updates, why not subscribe to our newsletter and get all of the latest information.
