NAV 2013 R2 Cumulative Updates

Microsoft Dynamics® NAV 2013 R2 has introduced many new features and fixes to the Role Tailored Client but Microsoft never rest on their laurels! Every month they release a cumulative update which includes hotfixes for the latest bugs they have had reported.

Some of these have been minor fixes that most users would never come across but some of them have been major issues which can even cause data loss. We’ve seen this happen a number of times in development and testing databases, but fortunately not in live databases (yet)!

I would consider the most major updates to have come from Microsoft recently to be:

• CU3 (Build 36035): o FIX - Excel worksheet is blank after you run Export to Excel when the Excel add-in is already open.

• CU5 (Build 36281): o FIX – Possible data loss when compiling or modifying tables in a live database. ? This should be seen as an essential update. Something as innocuous as compiling a number of objects at the same time, which can be done by any development environment user, can cause whole tables to be deleted.

• CU8 (Build 36897): o New Feature – Import and Export Data. ? Allows you to import and export company data, settings and application objects from either the RTC or PowerShell. Similar to what could be achieved using FBK files in the Classic client, but with more features.

The links to the main aspects of the CU8 download can be found here:

CU8 - Import/ Export Data - This document is very much 'In Depth'.

CU8 - Import/ Export Data using NAV Data files - This document is more a 'Brief Overview'.

There are many, many other smaller fixes implemented in each CU, so whenever updating you should update to the most recent version. To check what version of NAV you are currently running open the menu on the top left then select Help -> About Microsoft Dynamics. The build number is underlined in red in the below screenshot:
