The Autumn brings the second major release of the year for Business Central, as part of the 2 wave annual update cycle. Here we look at the highlight features.
Dynamics Consultants have a long history of rescuing companies who have a poor implementation of Microsoft Dynamics. Recently we helped an Essex based company with their Warehousing and stocking system.
An Essex based company, who distribute sim cards, mobile phones and tables, came to Dynamics Consultants having had an implementation from another partner, which had problems stemming from a poor assessment of the requirements.
Dealing with sim cards adds the complication of tracking on every item. With a long list of other developments and the original partner underestimating the level of item tracked order quantities, meant that the system ran extremely slowly. This was bringing the company slowly to its knees.
Having looked at the existing database, it was clear that the system had a huge amount of modifications that could do with re-developing, to the point that we could have started from scratch. We realised that as a solution for a customer who has just paid a lot of money on a system and due to the cost of the implementation, cash-flow was a bit tight. Re-implementation was not exactly a solution! We agreed to improve the code as much as possible within a set budget, working from the most important areas to fix as a priority. Dynamics Consultants and the customer recognised the benefit in carrying out the changes, both in terms of operational efficiencies for the customer and reduction of support calls for the Dynamics Consultants support team, and so DC offered to carry out the improvements to be paid over 12 monthly payments as part of our partnership commitment to our customers.
One major issue was that solutions had been written at a very high level. Where functionality had been written for one method of shipping, for example, the previous partner required further development to transfer this to other shipping methods. In areas of the system where this kind of development had taken place, we worked to embed the functionality so that it could work across the board.
Headed by our development director, Jeremy Organ, the work included slimming down code to make it more efficient, both from a programming and from a processing point of view. In some cases sections of code were reduced by a quarter of the amount with similar operation.
For Dynamics Consultants partnership is very important - our performance is measured by your success. We look forward to helping them with perfecting their system as the company grows. Helping companies build for the future is all about understanding the business and the implications of growth. In this way, we are able to design a solution based on the Dynamics platform that will grow seamlessly with the business.
“Dynamics Consultants have been incredibly helpful, turning our fairly unusable installation into a tool that will help us build the business. Our system now runs smoothly and quickly. Thank you to Jeremy and the rest of the team at DC.”

After a recent visit to the Digital Manufacturing 2day event in Coventry and an insightful presentation by Lord Chris Holmes, I thought I would delve a bit deeper into the current AI regulation facing UK industry.
Choosing the right ERP system when moving on from Sage 50 can shape how efficiently your business grows and adapts. If you want advanced features, greater flexibility and easier integration with familiar Microsoft tools, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is often the stronger option compared to Sage 200. As real-time data insight, automation and scalability are now necessities and not luxuries, your ERP upgrade decision is more important than ever.
