Making Tax Digital Microsoft Update

HMRC Delays in Implementation

Some VAT-registered persons will not be required to file their VAT Returns electronically from March next year, their deadline has been extended to September.  This applies to persons who:-

  • Are registered charities that are not a limited company;
  • Business activity is a trust;
  • Are part of a Group VAT registration;
  • Have more than one company with the same VAT Registration No.;
  • Are required to make payments on account;
  • Use the Annual Accounting scheme;
  • Are registered for VAT in the UK but are not based there.

The registered person will need to confirm with their local VAT office that they have been exempted from the online submission requirements.

Submission Software

Microsoft has now released the updates required to implement online submissions for Making Tax Digital for VAT and the EC Sales List.  The following versions of NAV are supported:-

  • Dynamics NAV 2018;
  • Dynamics NAV Business Central;
  • Dynamics NAV 2017;
  • Dynamics NAV 2016;
  • Dynamics NAV 2015.

The Role Tailored Client version of Dynamics NAV 2009 is not supported but it may be possible to “backload” the changes into that version.  This may well not be possible for “Classic client” versions in which case, it will be necessary to use a bespoke interface which will submit the required information to HM Customs and Excise in some other way, possibly from an Excel spreadsheet.

Dynamics Consultants are committed to ensuring that whatever version of NAV they use, our customers will be able to fully comply with all the MTD requirements. As such we are currently investigating the functionality of the Microsoft updates and the impact it will have on customers with either supported or unsupported versions of NAV or Business Central.

Microsoft have some generic deployment instructions which can be found here but more specific instructions are being prepared.  We are also preparing detailed guidance on how to deploy and set up MTD submissions in NAV.
