What’s New in Business Central 2025 Release Wave 2
The Autumn brings the second major release of the year for Business Central, as part of the 2 wave annual update cycle. Here we look at the highlight features.
With the upcoming legislation for Making Tax Digital, we have been working closely with Microsoft on the compliance updates to Dynamics NAV and Dynamics Business Central. In December, Microsoft released their solution for testing. There are a few minor errors which are due to be fixed for a release at the beginning of February. These will need to be tested and approved by Her Majesty Customs and Excise (HMCE). We know enough now to give an update on what is involved and how it affects our customers.
Microsoft support NAV 2015 onwards and Business Central; if you are on one of these versions and are up to date with your enhancement you will be entitled to the updates free of charge.
If you have a current support contract with us, we are happy to add/merge the objects as required. We have a detailed process in place to perform this work and will be scheduling work to commence in the second half of February, following the updates from Microsoft. We will be contacting you to schedule your testing and putting the updates into your live databases.
For our supported customers, we will also be issuing detailed guidance on how to set it all up and use it nearer the time as well as providing free webinars which will give you the chance for Q&A.
If you do not have a support contract but are up to date with your enhancement, the above service will be available typically for £250.00, however, we reserve the right to change this figure depending on any development in your system.
If you are not up-to-date with an enhancement plan, please contact us to discuss your options.
Due to changes in the NAV solution, some of the technologies required for the new functionality are not available. This means that the updates from Microsoft will not be applicable to your solution. We have been working with Microsoft and HMRC and our recommendation is as follows:
As discussed in our previous Making Tax Digital blog, companies that submit group VAT or multiple companies with the same VAT registration number are not currently supported by the HMRC system. This means that the deadline for those companies is not until October.
For companies that are not on standard VAT, we anticipate that the updated will be applicable to you. However, because of the direct upload, you may wish to discuss your setup with our team of experts to make sure that you are ready to submit the correct figures.
If you are not one of our customers, we are of course happy to help. With over 250 years of combined experience with Microsoft Dynamics products, our team has been working with HMRC and Microsoft and would be happy to discuss your options.
We will continue to release updates as we receive the information, so keep an eye out on our blog, or subscribe to receive our quarterly newsletter and the Dynamics Dispatch. Alternatively, if you have any questions or need to discuss any of the points that we have highlighted, please feel free to contact our friendly and experienced team.

After a recent visit to the Digital Manufacturing 2day event in Coventry and an insightful presentation by Lord Chris Holmes, I thought I would delve a bit deeper into the current AI regulation facing UK industry.
Choosing the right ERP system when moving on from Sage 50 can shape how efficiently your business grows and adapts. If you want advanced features, greater flexibility and easier integration with familiar Microsoft tools, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is often the stronger option compared to Sage 200. As real-time data insight, automation and scalability are now necessities and not luxuries, your ERP upgrade decision is more important than ever.
