Get stuff done during the Coronavirus

Get stuff done during the Coronavirus

This is an uncertain time for a lot of businesses, especially in customer facing industries. Many businesses are not able to run their normal operations and it means that productivity is running low. However, as long as your business financials are in order, the next few months could be very useful to you on a more long-term basis.

Get stuff done during the Coronavirus

What have you been putting off?

We are doing whatever we can to make the best use of this time, and we encourage other businesses to do the same. Now is the time to get the “stuff” done that you have been putting off, the things that get put in the pile of things to do “at some point” and you never get round to.

It is not unusual for businesses to have tasks that everyone knows are important for the business growth, but you and your staff are just too busy with the everyday operations to get around to them. Now with the coronavirus causing disruption to the everyday, maybe it is time to consider getting those things done.

What can businesses do during the Coronavirus epidemic?

  • Use dictate to get stuff written
  • Schedule tasks such as social posting
  • Get your books and paperwork in order
  • Get your business systems up to date
  • Check that your systems are healthy
  • Make sure your business processes are current and documented
  • Take time to concentrate on business strategy
  • Talk to your staff to get insights into their relationship with the business

Dictate to Type

Many applications, such as MS Word and OneNote, have dictate tools. These use modern AI, without the need to voice train, so that you can dictate, and the software will type for you. For those working at home, this can help to get your thoughts down on paper quickly and accurately.

Schedule tasks

If you are feeling light on work, make tools such as schedulers to get ahead. For example, social media posting can help you schedule regular content so that you can make good use of your time as work starts to ramp up.

Get Filing!

Are you not very good at admin, such as getting your books in order or sorting out filing? Make use of this time and get organised! This is a great time to experiment with different ways of making life easier. Move your paperwork online to cloud storage, making sure that it is secure, organised and accessible remotely.

Upgrading Your Software

There are two factors affecting the decision to upgrade. Firstly, and most obviously, is cost – can you afford do an upgrade? However, less obvious at first is the biggest cause of delaying upgrades the impact on the business. The time involved with key users, making sure that everything is in the right place, cleansing data, testing, training; the whole process can be a lot of work for our clients.

Now that businesses are not operating normally, this may be a good time to consider whether an upgrade is on the cards.

Is now the time to think about doing that improvement to your system, or maybe even an upgrade?

Upgrade your Dynamics

Systems Health Check

Typically, business systems are fixed when something is broken. But very often, companies continue to run software, databases, etc that are not at optimal performance. For a wide range of reasons, things can get untidy, slow down, and you just make do. We run Dynamics database and SQL health checks as relatively low cost services for our customers, which are perfect to make sure that everything is working as well as they can be. This is an ideal time to review all of those systems.

Business Processes

A big thing that holds a lot of businesses back is processes. Your company either doesn’t have enough and just needs to get them down, or they are so complex through over-achieving ISO9001 and other regulations that they are difficult to change. This is a great time to sit down and review how they are working – perhaps with a number of your staff through a Teams meeting.

Strategy

Working on your business strategy has never been more important. It is far too easy to just keep trying to do more of the same, and getting bogged down in the day to day. This is a great opportunity to review your business, it’s goals and it’s operations to see how well you can do.

Staff Insights

One of the things we have seen a lot of during the lockdown is the increase in welfare discussions with staff. Whilst managers are calling their teams, this is a great time to do some one-to-one calls to get a feel for how people view your business. Giving your employees a forum for saying what is good and what isn’t good about working for your business, as well as offering suggestions can be very productive to a business strategy.

Work With Us On Getting Stuff Done

Our office may be closed, however we are still fully operational, so please use this time to talk to our team to get everything in order. This difficult time will only be temporary, and as the country and the world recovers, we want to make sure everyone hits the ground running.

We will be launching a new series of articles dealing with how to be productive, survive and thrive during the coronavirus and in the world following the pandemic.
