Dynamics NAV to Business Central Upgrades

To many Dynamics® 365 Business Central is just the next version release of Dynamics NAV (formerly Navision). However, the speed of change from Microsoft is now bringing in changes in functionality, clients, development methodology, integration, etc.

Where will your system go?

With Business Central there is a choice where your system will go:

  • On-Premise - have your Dynamics solution hosted from your own servers.
  • Private cloud - just like the the On-premise deployment, but you can host Dynamics in the cloud, such as in Azure.
  • SAAS - Software as a Service provides a fully hosted solution on the Microsoft cloud.

A Development in Methodology

Traditionally modifications to Dynamics have been through changes to the base code. Microsoft has changed how this works; future versions will be built as apps that do not change the base code. When upgrading to the latest versions, we will work with you to change the development that you have to suit the new app model. In our experience, a lot of the functionality gained from developments on old versions is now part of the base product and so this may not be as costly as you fear.

Upgrade costs and the time required depend on which version of Dynamics Business Central / NAV / Navision you are upgrading from, the number of existing modifications you have and the number of new modifications you require. This means that a level of investigation is required for us to quote. 

We often find that our quotations for upgrades are lower than for our competitors. This is due to a number of factors which stem from having some of the best senior developers in the industry. Their skill and experience to allow them to perform development and upgrades quicker - which is the basis of our quotes, even if it is not one of the senior staff that performs the work. Many partners provide quotations at full rates based on the time required for the junior members of staff, hence the difference in price.
