Anyone who follows our social media will know that we are a big fan of food, especially cake! So with the final of the Great British Bake Off last week we decided to hold our own baking competition to raise a little money - and to stuff our faces while we were at it!
We were raising money for two local Hampshire based charities, Naomi House & Jacks Place and the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA). The rules were simple, bake something tasty and if you can squeeze a partnership message in, all the better! It was supposed to be a one-day event, but with so much cake, we even had customers and partners taking part when they came for meetings for several days!
The entries
We can rely on Jeremy to make a big effort when it comes to cooking, and his spectacular Bourbon and Maple cake was a hit with all of those who like a tipple. Jeremy isn't one for politics; so his cake showing the strong partnership between America and Canada was a little dubious, as was his adherence to office alcohol policies, but his cake was tasty none-the-less! A number of our team went to see some live music, with Tom (Tombo) going home late with nothing baked. So the arrival of a Salted Caramel Cake the next morning was certainly a surprise - and it tasted fantastic! Stephen's chocolate brownies were so neat they could have been professionally made, we can rely on a developer to do an accurate job of something, and they were.
We very much appreciated Stuart slow roasting his raspberries, with his offering of White Chocolate and raspberry cookies, which went down a treat with a cup of tea! We can rely on Miruna to do something precisely, and her Cappuccino Cake was extremely neat! Not only that, it was very light and tasty, which was a perfect contrast to all of the incredibly sweet offerings from everyone else! My choc and nut partnership brownies were more or less the opposite - messy and sickly sweet! Most people could only cope with one small piece at a time - other than Grace who managed three slices in a sitting!
The Money Raised
The charities were chosen because they are great charities and because they mean something to us. I volunteer for Naomi House as one of their team of event photographers. A number of us understand the importance of HIOWAA; as you can imagine being on the coast we have quite a few staff that are into marine activities such as sailing and jet-skiing. Dynamics Consultants matched every pound donated, bringing the money raised to £127 for Naomi House and £87 for HIOWAA.
And the Star Baker is...
Miruna! Her sublime Cappuccino cake was the start of the show, with Tombo's salted caramel cake a close second - just one vote in it! Everyone received more than one vote, so well done to all of the bakers!
